At Kite, we’re not just about bringing delivering cutting-edge cybersecurity technology to the UK channel (although make no mistake, we are very much about that) – we’re also all about a good cause. This year, we’ve been making a special effort to make a positive difference to the world around us, and as we hit the ground running in H2, it’s time to take a look back and review our efforts over the first six months of this year.
Q1
In Q1, Team Kite was all about bringing the beats – heartbeats, that is (we know – that isn’t even good enough to be called a dad joke – sorry not sorry) – we selected the British Heart Foundation as our charity!
Our big thing was, of course, the Walk for Hearts challenge in February. Over the course of the month, twelve members of Team Kite took to the outdoors to walk 28, 50, or 100 miles – for a collective target of 856 miles, and a fundraising target of £1000.
If you were watching our socials in February, you will have seen a sizeable (but we think you will find completely justified) amount of bemoaning the absolutely atrocious weather we had to brave – but brave it we did (as well our very own Lucy conquering a mountain, which wasn’t on the brief, but we are impressed). How did we do?
Not only did we hit our target, we smashed it to rubble and left it in the dust, as between us, we managed an incredible, an Herculean 1039 miles! As for fundraising, we demolished that target as well, raising £1435!
Best bit? We didn’t stop there, because at our #CyBeer Flight Club event in March, we held a sneaky little raffle (wasn’t that sneaky – raffles don’t really work if you take the stealthy approach), with a target to raise £500.
How did that do? In another glorious act of target vandalism, we raised an additional £790, for a staggering total of £2225 raised for the British Heart Foundation in Q1!
Of course, we really can’t take all the credit on this one (although those were some pretty treacherous floods in February, we won’t lie) – a massive thank you to all of our donors who contributed so generously to this cause.
Q2
Before we dive into our main cause for Q2, we’d like to take a brief detour into April, when Team Kite got together to support something slightly closer to home. Over the month, we got to work collecting non-perishable food and other everyday items to donate to One Roof Leicester, an amazing local charity dedicated to eradicating homelessness and helping people who are homeless recover and rebuild their lives.
What else did we get up in Q2? Well, as our top three fundraisers for Q1, our own Liane, Serani, and Lucy decided that our Q2 charity of choice would be Save the Children!
We can’t escape the fact that the world was alight with World Cup fever this quarter, and so it seemed only fitting that our charitable activities reflected that. The prize pot for our traditional Team Kite World Cup sweepstake this year took on new meaning, because as a team, we matched the total in the form of £125 raised.
Of course, we were never going to be satisfied with a mere £125 – so we snuck in another cheeky raffle at the Kite Champions Cup, and raised another £635, for a total of £760 raised for Save the Children… so far!
